Is dark chocolate healthy?

Chocolate is the ultimate treat! While milk and white chocolates taste delicious and are brilliant in moderation, good quality dark chocolate is an indulgent treat with added health benefits!
♡ Dark chocolate is bursting with organic compounds that act as antioxidants, including polyphenols, flavanols, catechins, and may even contain more than blueberries!
♡ The flavanols in dark chocolate send signals to stimulate the lining of the arteries to produce Nitrous Oxide (a gas), which helps the arteries to relax, lowering blood pressure by improving blood flow.
♡ The antioxidants in dark chocolate can be highly protective agains the oxidation of LDL ('bad' cholesterol). Oxidation of LDL can damage tissues such as the lining of blood vessels and contribute to cardiovascular disease.
♡ Flavanols may also protect against skin damage from the sun, by improving blood flow to the skin and increasing the minimum amount of UV rays the skin can handle before turning red.
♡ Studies have also found consumption of dark chocolate to improve blood flow to the brain and subsequently cognitive function.
Make the most of dark chocolate, the higher the cocoa content, the better!
