Quick question: why do crabs walk sideways?

I was asked this over the weekend and it inspired me to find out why!


Us humans have knee joints that point forwards and, as a result, we move forwards and backwards. The knees on crabs, however, are joined at the side meaning their knees bend sideways, resulting in their characteristic sideways shuffle!
